Your outdoor event essentials: cash and ID, clip for hair, camera, cab fare. From First Friday to Fiesta, you know the drill for getting the most out of SA’s festivals for the rest of us.

Carry your clutch – you’ve learned from experience to keep hands free for imbibing – to Luminaria this Saturday, March 13th. The free outdoor art gallery stretches across downtown, and it’s a feast for the senses. Meet the makers of contemporary works, glass-blown objects, photography, murals and paintings, before strolling past live performance art, film, dance, readings and tons of musical acts. You’ll have a chance to relax with snacks from local food and drink vendors, before perusing for pieces to call your own.
After all, you’re a patron of the arts – just as long as the piece fits in your purse.

An event that’s sure to be as smokin’ hot as Padma and delicious as Jamie, the Paella Cook-Off takes place at the Pearl Brewery this Sunday, March 14th, beginning at 11 a.m. Taste your way across Spain – the country’s famous dish will be prepared for competition by the city’s next top chefs (A.K.A. CIA students), and there’s also a line-up of sangria, tapas and live music.
