Introducing the Tidbits birthday girl series. Each month, we'll highlight a local business owner on her birthday. First up is Elizabeth Ward Creel, owner of Elizabeth W Boutique in The Shops of Highland Park.
Happy birthday! How are you celebrating your birthday this year?
With a trip to the Hamptons – beyond excited to spend a long weekend there!
How would you describe your store's aesthetic?
Clean and elegant. We wanted to create an environment that our clients feel comfortable in, like they are shopping in their own closets, so the store is very streamlined. Also, we wanted the clothes to be the hero so we kept the design simple.
Why did you choose your location?
The Shops of Highland Park has so many complementary businesses! Where else can you go for a blowout, makeup, mani-pedi and a new outfit all in one location?
What's your daily uniform?
ReDone high-waisted distressed denim, a white t-shirt, Gucci mules and simple gold jewelry – on repeat.
Where do you always take your out of town visitors?
First stop Al Biernat’s, second stop Javier’s! These are two of my favorite local spots. For adults, of course. When my nephews come to visit we always go to the Dallas Aquarium – we love the anteater!
Fave pamper spot in Dallas?
Hands down The Spa at The Crescent! I try and go at least once a month for a massage and steam – it is so relaxing. I’m loving it even more after the new renovations.
What’s the most underrated thing about Dallas?
White Rock Lake – we are so lucky to have such a beautiful place in our city to run, paddleboard and enjoy the outdoors.
Where can we find you when you’re not at your boutique?
Running White Rock Lake! I love to run and am training for a marathon coming up this month. When I am not running I swap out my running shoes for pilates socks. I am addicted to pilates at BodyBar Fitness – I try to get in at least 3 classes a week. Otherwise, you will find me working in my home office. I work 7 days a week and do a lot of the strategic planning for our business here with my dog Felix.
Best spot for cocktails?
For a coffee fix you head to...
I have recently swapped my coffee addiction for juices – I love Roots Juices on Oaklawn.
You own the store with your husband—what’s your go to date night spot?
Mi Cocina – we’re obsessed.
Why did you decide to open a boutique?
I have always loved fashion, even as a young girl. I remember spending hours planning my outfit for “wear what you want day” at school when I didn’t have to wear a uniform. I started working retail when I was 16 and was hooked!
What did you do before opening the store?
I spent 10 years working for Fortune 200 food manufacturers and large retailers. I've worked in various functions including sales, analytics, product development, visual merchandising and category management. Most recently before opening the store I managed a $650MM business at retail as a buyer.
Favorite piece of clothing from your store?
Anything by Sea NY!
One wardrobe piece you couldn’t live without?
Majestic tank in white – you always need a good tank.
What's in your clutch?
My cell phone (of course), Nars blush in Orgasm, Chanel lip gloss, Orbit spearmint gum, Tom Ford glasses and my sunnies.
How many candles are you blowing out?
More than I wish to mention...
What’s on your birthday gift wish list?
Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 perfume and a new handbag.
